BrickMagic 2010 Announcements

BrickMagic a Resounding Success!

The first BrickMagic convention had 8000 public visitors over the Mother's Day weekend. 95 exhibitors presented three train layouts, FIRST LEGO League robots, castles and much more during the event. Exhibitors came from as far as Pennsylvania and Florida, and all had a great time!

BrickMagic also had its share of press coverage, including:

Special bonus for Hilton guests!

If you book a room at the North Raleigh Hilton, you'll also receive two special bonuses!

1) All Hilton guests are eligible to attend the special Preview Event that takes place Saturday, May 8 from 8-10am (2 hours before BrickMagic opens to the General Public). Just show your Hilton Room Key with your paid Saturday ticket, and you can get in two hours early, avoid the crowds later in the day, meet Professional LEGO artist Nathan Sawaya, and get a guided tour of the exhibit hall by BrickJournal magazine editor Joe Meno.

Jonathan Bender's book debuts at BrickMagic!

BrickMagic Exclusive! LEGO: A LOVE STORY by Jonathan Bender will debut at the Festival! (With a cover designed by Nathan Sawaya)

This new book documents an adult LEGO fan's dual quest: to build with bricks and build a family.

Whether you're an avid LEGO freak or a onetime fan who now shares LEGO bricks with your children, this book will appeal to the inner builder in you and reignite a love for all things LEGO.

Jonathan will be on hand with copies of the book, and will also be hosting our "Getting Started in LEGO Fandom" panel during public days!

Breaking news!!!

LEGO set designers Mark Stafford and Megan Rothrock will be at BrickMagic! Both are AFOLs who have done what most of us have wanted to do: create a LEGO set! They will be doing presentations during exhibitor day, so if you want to know how the LEGO design process works, BrickMagic will be the place!

FREE BrickFlix tickets for Exhibitors and Vendors

We've set aside a FREE ticket to the 9pm screening of the BrickFlix Film Festival on May 5, for all BrickMagic exhibitors and vendors. If you've already registered, you'll get an email with all the details. Hope to see you there!

BrickFlix is a GO!

For the early birds coming to BrickMagic, here's an event the we are starting up: BrickFlix!

See animated brick films and other LEGO-themed shorts during the First Annual BrickFlix Film Festival, at the Carolina Theatre, 309 W Morgan Street, Durham, North Carolina on Wednesday, May 5! Special guest David Pagano, an animator whose resume includes work for the LEGO Group (including Space Police and the LEGO Club Show) will be on hand to demonstrate how his films are made, and take questions after each screening!

First showing: 7:00pm for ALL AGES
(one hour of films, followed by a 30-minute Q&A with animator David Pagano).

Second showing: 9:00pm for AGES 16-UP ONLY
(includes some scenes that may be too intense for younger viewers, and followed by a more in-depth discussion with David Pagano).

Tickets are only $4.75 each! Advance tickets may be purchased at the Carolina Theatre box office. The box office is open at 11am every weekday. Tickets may also be purchased the night of BrickFlix starting at 6:30pm, but there are a limited number of seats available, so we recommend you purchase your tickets early.

Flight Discounts to BrickMagic

I was tipped off about this, and it's rather short notice, but worth note:

Southwest Airlines is having a promotion for Valentine's Day (sorta) called Travel Near With Your Dear, running through Thursday, Feb 11. Depending on distance, a flight can be as low as $39 one way. Raleigh-Durham Airport qualifies for this from the following airports: Baltimore, Birmingham, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Nashville, and Philadelphia.

For other low-cost flights, you can check out JetBlue, where a flight from Buffalo NY to Raleigh Durham will cost $108. JetBlue has no deadline though.

Other airlines that serve RDU include US Airways, Continental, American Airlines, Air Canada, Delta, United and AirTran.

Call for Presenters and Volunteers

BrickMagic needs volunteers to help out with the event, from crowd directing to gofer work to stuffing goody bags. Any person interested in helping out with the event can drop a line to admin@brickmagic.org, title: Volunteer. Any exhibitors wishing to do a presentation can also send a note t the above address, title: Presentation. Please indicate if your presentation is meant for public or the AFOLs.

Registration is Open!

BrickMagic's registration went live, so registration is a bit easier. Registering entails signing up for an account. When you confirm your account e-mail, you'll be able to register yourself and family to exhibit MOCs and vendor tables, if you wish to sell at the event. Registration is $50 per person and $100 per vendor table, limit of 4 per vendor.
